Rydberg Nonlinear Quantum Optics

  • Simon Ball passes PhD viva

    2017-10-12

Simon Ball, PhD student on the Rydberg Quantum Nonlinear Optics project supervised by Charles Adams, has passed his PhD viva today. His thesis is entitled "A coherent microwave interface for manipulation of single photons". Congratulations from everyone here in Durham! He will soon join Sebastian Hofferberth's group at Syddansk Universitet in Odense as a post-doc.

  • Charles Adams gives invited talk at EGAS 49

    2017-07-14

Charles Adams will be presenting an invited talk at the EGAS 49 conference, which will take place in Durham next week (17th to 21st July 2017). The talk will be held on Wednesday 19th July, 8:45 and is entitled "Contactless photon-photon interactions".

  • ICOLS 2017: Poster prize

    2017-07-10

On top of giving a "Hot Topics" talk, PhD student Teodora Ilieva has won a poster prize at the recent International Conference on Laser Spectroscopy (ICOLS 2017). Her poster was entitled "Rydberg-mediated long-range interactions between stored optical photons" and presented the Rydberg Quantum Nonlinear Optics team's recent results on Rydberg mediated , "contactless" interactions between spatially separated photons. Congratulations to Teodira from eveyone here in Durham!

  • ICOLS 2017: Hot topics talk

    2017-07-03

Teodora Ilieva, PhD student on the Rydberg Nonlinear Quantum Optics project, has been selected to present one of only three hot topics talks at the International Contference on Laser Spectroscopy (ICOLS) 2017 in Arcachon, France. Her talk will be entitled "Contactless nonlinear optics mediated by long-range Rydberg interactions" and present the group's recent results on the demonstration of a Rydberg-mediated interaction between individual photons stored in independent cold atomic media separated by more than 10 micrometers and propagating in non-overlapping optical modes.

The talk will take place in the Hot Topics session starting at 17:00 on Thusday, 6th July. More details on the reseach can be found on the project page and in the reference below.

  • Hannes Busche passes PhD viva

    2017-04-25

Congratulations to Hannes Busche who has successfully passed his PhD viva today. The title of his thesis is "Contactless quantum non-linear optics with cold Rydberg atoms". He will stay in Durham until next year to continue working on the Rydberg Nonlinear Quantum Optics project as a post-doc.
